Frank had set us up with a walk in Kruger that was amazing!! We got picked up at the Malelane gate in a game vechicle before 0600.
male lion before walk
The best part of the day was that we got to see two lion by the road before we got to the walking site.

male lion on road
They don’t like the wet grass so in the early morning they stay near the road. They were so close to the vehicle I got excellent photos. The female was facing away from us so I really only got the male.

Obi one of the bush guides
We continued on to the walk site and I must admit it is a little bit alarming to step out of the vehicle in to the bush. We had two guides with guns who both walked at the front of the group.

Curt and I in bush
When they saw something interesting they would stop and give a little talk. They showed us that the sage grass is an antimalarial agent because it keeps the mosquitos away. They said the anti-poaching rangers will sleep near the sage grass at night. They showed us rhino dung and how the white rhino is made of grass and the black rhino has grass. They showed us a black rhino print and a spot where the badger had dug up the dung beetle larvae.

zebra on bush walk
At the half way point we crested a hill with zebra that ran back and forth in front of us for awhile before disappearing. Then we had a few snacks of crackers and peanuts. The same guy that touched the rhino dung put his whole hand in the nuts so needless to say I didn’t have any of those.

After the walk resumed we found these to rhino. We were so close to them it was amazing.

They hung around for a bit before disappearing. This was pretty much the highlight of the walk and it was over shortly after. Amazing!

Phase 2 of house
The walk was so early in the morning that we spent the rest of the day napping and reading. We made one more visit to the house site where they had poured the cement foundation.

house bricks
We couldn't resist getting a photo on the pile of bricks that will later be our house.

zebra at Croc Bridge house
Genie took us to see another house she has been preparing for the people to come for vacation. These zebra were wondering around outside their house. I can’t wait to look out my window and see a zebra!
