Shindand Half Marathon

16 April 2010

overcast 75 °F

I organized a half marathon here in Shindand and 38 people ran it! It was a pretty good turn out even including some Italians who normally aren't allowed to run on the perimeter. We got to wear the shirts I designed for the run and got medals at the end.

We took a photo before the start for the Armed Forces Bank that bought the shirts.

He seems really playful and skittish but will eat beef jerky out of your hand and water from a bottle.

MEDCAP in Afghanistan

9-10 April 2010

sunny 75 °F

Friday and Saturday myself and three pilots went to the Zerco (?) Valley for a MEDCAP mission to help women and children. The village was about 7 minutes from Shindand via helicopter.
We spent a day and a half seeing about 300 women and kids. A lot of them seemed to want the goodies that were given away like toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, etc.

I picked up this baby because the mom set him on the table and I didn't want her to fall off.

sunny 75 °F

I organized a run for St. Patricks Day here in Afghanistan and it went pretty well. 91 people ran and wore all kinds of green to celebrate.

The fire fighters love St. Patricks Day and one ran in all his gear. These guys rode around in the vehicle and cheered for us.
