Baton Rouge and St. Francisville, LA

Old State Capitol

Old State Capitol

Today was a touristy day in Baton Rouge and St. Francisville, about 45 minutes away. Rumor was that the Old State Capitol buidling in downtown Baton Rouge was beautiful and had a ghost story on top of that.

The building looks like a gothic castle from the outside complete with lion guards. The surrounding garden area used to be a social gathering area back in its day. The castle was at one point taken over by yankee soldiers and accidently burned down. This whole story is told in a very interesting video by a "ghost" of the castle. It has quite a history to include one of its leaders being assasinated which remains an unsolved mystery. The inside is indeed gorgeous with a stained glass ceiling and spiral staircase. It is a popular place to have weddings now.

They have an audio tour but the workers gave us a map that did not coincide with the audio tour so we only got half an idea of what was going on since we were always looking at the wrong thing.

Curt noticed that the building even had its own door handle with Louisiana written right on it.

It seemed that the further you got the more interesting the building looked but eventually we were hungry and walked to the nearby casino for lunch.
Myrtles Plantation

Myrtles Plantation

Our new travel theme seems to be activity, rest, activity so it was late afternoon before we left for St. Francisville. It is the second oldest town in Lousiana and home to one of the most haunted houses in the nation - Myrtles Plantation.

It is an antebellum home builtin 1796 with a carraige house restuarant and shop.

We had a delicious dinner - Curt said it was the best bread pudding ever - before going on our mystery tour of the house. The guide told us stories of the house, mostly that were related by guests staying at the B&B.

Apparently there is a four month wait to stay in one of their haunted rooms. Supposedly the smudges on this mirror resemble a face and hand print. It has been resilvered multiple times and each time the same smudges reapear. Most of the ghosts sound nice but some of them cause a raucous that sounds like a party is going on in the living room so I'm not sure you would get the greatest nights sleep.

Slip and Slide

Slip and Slide

Our philosophy was that on a friday there would not be as many kids at the water park because just maybe their parents were still at work and unable to take them. We drove to Baton Rouge last night so we could get up and hit the park. They do right by the military and give them nearly 50% off on tickets.

Soon we were bumping down the slide as our first ride of the day. We were able to get on every ride - and yes, I was tall enough to ride them all.
Scary snake ride

The snake ride was so fast and it landed you into what felt like a washing machine. I felt like I drowned and Curt said it was awesome and wanted to go again!

Storm coming in

Until mid afternoon the water was SOOO refreshing. Then the clouds rolled in and threatened a rain storm so we hightailed it out of there. No one wanted to be in gridlock traffic getting out of the parking lot.

There was just enough time for a nap before dinner at a recommendation by the medics - The Superior Grill. It is so superior that we had to wait about 45 minutes for our table but it was a fun place and worth it. The restaurant is Mexican with delicious margaritas, a band area and a atmosphere so loud we had to yell at each other to communicate.

Brothers of the Sun Tour

Brothers of the Sun Tour

I have waited about seven years to see Kenny Chesney and now I get to see him with Tim McGraw. The only bad part is it is in Cowboys stadium but I guess I can deal with that.
So excited

So excited

Our seats are on the floor and after much anticipation we notice everyone has their cameras pointed to our left side. There is a stage and lighting area and before we know it Kenny Chesney is popping up on top of the stage that is right next to us!

The cameras and girls go crazy but soon enough we was off on his zipline to the front stage. He played after Tim McGraw who I must say had much peppier songs.

The best part was when they were both on the stage together singing Rock Star! Overall the whole thing was well worth the money.
