Kittery Beach Dive

29 September 2013

sunny 85 °F

Diving Kittery Beach is a special treat for the group since it has been closed since Hurricane Sandy. We have a lot of brass with us on this dive in order to get in here. Conch shells were also open for taking so everyone in our group of 10 or so was able to get one.

I have been trying to get a picture of this Northern Crested Caracara and this might be as good as it gets. I think I was holding up traffic on the way back from the beach.

River Cruise and Fort Clinch

The weekend trip is going by way to fast and after a waffle breakfast it is time to check out of the hotel already.

We have a date with a river cruise which was a different way to see the area. The highlights were the dolphin right at the beginning and the wild horses on Cumberland Island. There is one really expensive hotel we can barely see through all the Spanish moss and the people that stay there have to get picked up on a water taxi.

After the water cruise we eat a quick lunch outside at Café Karibou before driving back towards Jacksonville.

We stop at Fort Clinch Park and try to take a walk but these huge spiders were everywhere across the path so we just gave up.

Instead we moved on to the fort and walked around for a bit. Of course there is the room set up as the food storage area and the bread made me giggle. Naturally the Army bread would be from the stale bakery!

Fernandina Beach

Sleeping in is one of my favorite activities and it was wonderful to do that this morning and then have an amazing breakfast at the B&B. Today was a blueberry tort and a new twist on French toast.

The B&B has chairs to use so we took off for a lazy day at Fernandino Beach with only a few others. Reading magazines and taking photos of the birds was the order of the day.

When we returned to Amelia Island we had nachos and margaritas for snack and walked around the shops of the downtown. They have some really cute local shops and restaurants. For dinner we decided on fish tacos at a restaurant where we could look out over the water.

Amelia Island claims to have the oldest bar in Florida, the Palace Bar. No one else seemed to think it was that great since we were one of the only few people in there but Curt loved the pirate.

Before long we were walking to dinner at Arte Pizza where they have brick oven pizzas. I didn't hold back and ate the entire large pizza! (There isn't much good pizza in GTMO).

Diving at Blue Beach

7 September 2013

sunny 90 °F

Blue Beach is one of those that you can only go to with an O6 or above. A lot of people come to Cuba and never get to dive this one so I was very lucky.
