Franklin Mountain State Park

The Chili Pepper Challenge is a century bike ride that the El Paso Bicycle Group puts on in September every year. We were lucky enough to have Chris and Christina visit us in El Paso for the race. They drove in from Arizona and by the time they got to Franklin Mountain State Park must have been pretty tired of being in the truck. The carb loading pasta party moved to the park. Curt's lasagna was awesome with the backdrop of the beautiful mountain as we watched a full moon come up.

The chili pepper challenge itself did not really live up to the pasta party. Curt, Christina and I did the 64 mile ride. Unfortunately Chris is in need of a hip replacement and was in too much pain to do the race. On the positive side the course was flat and well marked with pretty views of the mountains and small towns in New Mexico. On the poor side was the rest stops who had the same food at each stop. The most disappointing was the cowbell we got for finishing. I just wonder why a cowbell??? But this is from a girl who signs up for races based on the medal :) By the time we finished there was a rumor that the food was gone. I think the original pasta was and so what was left were chicken sandwiches and chips.

The group hit the pool to stretch our overused muscles and even Mr. Finnegan enjoyed the cool water. A wonderful weekend was topped off with dinner at Kiki's MexicanRestaurant.

Elephant Butte Lake, New Mexico

4-7 September 2015

The saying goes that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Keeping that in mind this blog will be very short and only here for remembrance sake. We spent Labor Day weekend at Elephant Butte Lake in the RV with some of Curt's friends from the Combat Vets Motorcycle Association.

THis was unlike any lake had ever seen - its basically water in the middle of the desert without much else to look at. We did go tubing one day and have sand campfires at night. That's about it.

Squirty is our new baby and it was his second trip. He was exhausted after getting so dirty all day. Needless to say we still have a lot of cleaning to do in the RV.
