Hiking with the girls

Hot Springs, Arkansas has a humongous National Park nestled around the town and our goal today was to take all the girls hiking on one of the trails. The first one was a bust but the second trail was good for them, only 0.7 miles each way. Suprisingly Emma and Daisy did really well and they all seemed to have a blast. The trail ended at the top of the mountain with a lookout over Hot Springs.

On the way back down to town we let the girls off leash and they tore up and down the trail like maniacs. It was heart warming to watch them have so much fun together.

Lunch was another good one but more relaxed and Grandma's Cafe. It was a nice homey setting with large portions.

Tonight we were going to Garvan Gardens to see the Christmas Lights. The lady at the pet store told us tonight would be a better night to bring the dogs but to go early. We were about 15 minutes behind opening time and the place was already crazy. All the parking spots were full and we waited about 30 minutes in line just to pay. We ended up carrying Daisy and Emma because there were so many people. The light displays were probably very beautiful on a night that was not so crowded but we just couldn't enjoy it. We picked up our free hot chocolate just for the principle of it and got out of dodge.

Our reward was delicious pizza at Angels Italian restaurant. It is an adorable small place with awesome pizza. We were exhausted after our ordeal at the light show so we went home to get ready to leave tomorrow.

Hot Springs, Arkansas

21-22 December 2012

sunny 49 °F

The LAST vacation for me before my Cuba departure was five hours down the road to Hot Springs, Arkansas. We went with the psychologist friend we work with and her labradoodle, Calla. She found us a loft apartment to rent for the weekend that was right in town and allowed pets. The girls had plenty of space to run around while we were gone.

We were pleasantly suprised by the food - most of our time seemed to be spent eating and we were never disappointed. Our first night we got in town, walked the dogs and hit Belle Arti for Italian dinner. The owner of our loft recommended it to Lindsay and we each had something excellent to include the lobster bisque:)

The next morning we had breakfast in Curts kitchen before hitting the baths that make Hot Springs so famous. With our reservation we had passes for Quapaw Baths and Spa. Coming from Europe it was a bit tiny but it was a fun a free couple hours in the four different temperatures of water.
After that we had Mexican at Picante's Grill right next to our aparment. All three of us cleaned our plates....and our margarita glasses :)

Downtown has some cute shops so Lindsay and I went looking for bargains and cupcakes. They had a shop called Fat Bottom Girls Cupcake Shop that made a to-die-for red velvet cake.

We meant to hit a christmas show in town but after napping, walking dogs and dinner at a steakhouse next to the Mexican restaurant there was no time. The restaurant had good food but too many children for our taste. They were screaming so Curt decided he would scream too. The entire upstairs got silent, even the kids turned to stare at us. Needless to say we didn't linger there and decided to just watch a movie at home.

Rock 'n' Roll Vegas Half Marathon

2 December 2012

semi-overcast 55 °F

The idea behind this event was to run the strip at night. Because of this we didn't have to be at the meeting point until 1500. Until then we didn't do much but rest our legs and eat :)

The half marathon had 106 couples being married or renewing vows and all had to meet up at 1500 for the event that started at 1630.

By the start of the event we were well past ready to go. The ceremony was going to be 45 minutes in to the event at the three mile mark. We all gathered on the Brooklyn Bridge of New YOrk, New YOrk. The reverand had better words to say than the guy who originally married us. She had me in tears this time. It was well worth the effort and time we had to put in to participating. After the ceremony I went on down the strip for the next 10 miles and Curt went back to the Luxor.

I think the walk back to the hotel seemed longer than the run :) Curt had donuts and soda waiting for me though :) I got a shower and we went downstairs to the steakhouse for dinner. I got a delicious lobster bisque and a lobster pasta. Curt had Irish stew. It was a delicious dinner and just the right way to end my first trip to Vegas.
