Christmas Day 2013

25 December 2013

sunny 85 °F

This was a tough day for everyone to be without our families and especially for me after the lose of one of my little girls.

We tried to make the best of it by taking a boat out in the morning, down the river and for a bit of a swim later on.

I love the river here because it looks so different than everywhere else and has a lot of wildlife.

We tried for a feast on the boat but lucky for me I have a couple of wonderful friends, Noelle and Keith Douglas who brought me some more traditional Christmas food later in the day.

The 525th Military Police Battalion had a jingle bell run down the main avenue of GTMO this morning. The battalion was literally jingling because each Solider was given 2 bells - one for each shoe.

We stopped at the Brigade Commanders house to sing jingle bells before it was all over.

This is the first Christmas run I have had to do where I can't see my breath and I can wear a t-shirt!

Diana, Christina and I decided to kayak the bay this morning to get to hicacal beach which is where it was easy to pick up some pretty cool shells.

We did find some shells but we also got A LOT of bug bites. We also got to see a tag from a manatee when we were kayaking out. We couldn't see the manatee attached to it but we were really close to one!

Bike and Beach Day

1 December 2013

sunny 92 °F

That's right, it is December and warm enough for a beach day! This morning Curt joined in the Sunday ritual of my Navy friend Christina and I. We went on a road bike ride that loops along the Caribbean. Afterward of course we earned the buffet breakfast at the bayview followed by a lazy afternoon lounging at the beach.

There was an iguana that got pretty close trying to see if we had any snacks we were willing to share with him.

When we were forced to move off the beach in order to eat again we indulged in the Irish bar food while watching the Kansas City Chiefs fight for a win. They ended up losing the fight but it was a good game!
