Christina Carmody was helping me train for the hike up Mt. Kilimanjaro and we were doing one last walk around GTMO three days before I was scheduled to leave. Usually we would start at our houses on Windward Loop. This is where the officers and senior enlisted live and its affectionately called "the loop".
As we head down the main strip of the island we pass the sign for the Naval hospital, the source of a lot of my headaches during that year. Notice the dark sky in the background!
Next we come across the Bayview sign which held two of my favorite events during the week - the Mongolian BBQ on Thursday nights and the brunch buffet on Sundays.
Of course everywhere you go in GTMO you pass an iguana or too. I will really miss them!
And of course you can't have Americans and not a McDonalds!
JPJ hill doesn't look as massive in this photo as it is but it's a great place to get a work out and Christina insisted climbing it would be good for my training.
This is what would happen to me if I didn't listen to her I think the buzzards picked this one clean.
We were about 1 mile from home when it started POURING down rain. Of course it is one of the only times I have seen it rain all year. We waiting under a bus stop for awhile but we were so wet already we just headed for home.
Reef Raiders is the dive club and the place most people go to get their dive tanks filled.
